First of all, so sorry for the delay in posting all these. It’s been non-stop driving for the past few days with no down time!
We woke up at 845am and headed to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It looked kind of like the Louvre, except it’s on the lake in Cleveland…It was really cold and windy. I definitely under-packed.
They didn’t allow any pictures inside the Museum, but let me tell you, it was a veritable treasure trove of music history, including Jerry Garcia’s guitars (Will’s favorite), Slash’s hat (my favorite), and the telegram Malcolm MacLaren sent to Sid Vicious’ mom asking what they should do with his body (Nadia’s favorite). There was also a ton of other shit but I don’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone who is looking forward to going.
We ate at the cafeteria. We had peanut butter sandwiches, which were actually quite good, although mine was definitely on white bread even though the ingredients list said wheat bread, unless it was that weird new white wheat bread, which I think is weird and does not make any sense. Anyway, sticking to a vegetarian diet, it was the only option. Made me think of elementary school.
There were loads of school trips at the museum. Like, hundreds of little kids running around. Made me feel really old. One kid asked his teacher if they could go home because it was bored. Nadia overheard a dad telling his teenaged son about Nirvana and how all musicians eventually commit suicide. Yikes. The best tho, was this interaction I saw between two six-year olds:
Kid 1: Hey what’s that?
Kid 2: It’s a Walkman, it says so on the thing.
Kid 1: What’s that? (pointing at a record player)
Kid 2: ……I don’t know.
Yea, so the Museum pretty much just made us feel old. But there were lots of cool shit in there.
We left around 1pm and drove on to Chicago. Will drove the whole way. I just kept on taking pictures and dozed off. Fun!
Nadia booked a fancy hotel room for the night in downtown Chicago, with a concierge and valet parking and everything. It was very swank!
We had a few drinks at the Elephant and Castle, the hotel bar/restaurant. Will shared with us his vast knowledge of the brothers Hanson and then we headed over to the Chicago Diner for dinner.
It was really delicious. Possibly one of the best vegan/vegetarian restaurants I’ve ever eaten in. I’m usually not a fan of fake meat substitute cuisine, but they did it really really well. Nadia got a hot toddy made with Jameson, which oddly was the only hard liquor they served. Will and I got organic ales.
We had a few drinks at a bar called Roscoe’s and played pool and then called it a night… We think…
